J-Ward – A popular attraction in Ararat, J-Ward is a former prison for the criminally insane. Guided tours run several times a day, many stories to be told about the former inmates and the heritage of J-Ward. Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre – Explore the history of the Chinese miners on the central goldfields during the mid 1800’s. Gum San explores the Chinese influence on the cultural, economic  and social development of Australia. This is an interactive journey, with visitors able to try their hand at calligraphy, gold panning and learning to speak some Chinese.

Alexandra Gardens – spend some time wandering through Alexandra Park and Gardens. The kids will love the playground there, and can see the waterbirds residing on the lake.

One Tree Hill – A must see lookout – has amazing views of the region from the top!

Langi Morgala Museum – Located in the old wool and wheat store, the museum showcases the culture and heritage of the Aboriginal culture. The artefacts are from the 19 th and 20 th centuries, as well as some contemporary items.

Ararat Wine Region – Explore many of the magnificent wineries in the Ararat region. There are many historic buildings in Ararat to explore along the main street. Enjoy the eclectic collection of shops on the vine-lined street, or stop to enjoy a coffee or meal at one of the cafes or restaurants.
